Under this project called Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), 6 metro railways are being constructed in Dhaka, which will be able to transport 60 thousand passengers per hour and 5 lakh passengers per day. Metro Rail runs on electricity, so it is eco-friendly. It can run at a maximum speed of 100 km per hour, making it very time efficient. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is financing the Dhaka Metro Rail project and Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) is implementing it.
